The
1st National Research Conference on Child
and Family Programs and Policy was held at
Bridgewater State College on July 10-11, 2008. This
conference was among the first of research
conferences to exclusively focus on policy issues
pertaining to child and family well-being. Forty
papers were presented at this conference and we had
50+ attendees from 18 different states, coming from
academia, private research firms, government
agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Our two
invited speakers were: (1) Francine Jacobs, Ph.D.,
Tufts University, who addressed policy and research
implications from home visiting programs, and (2)
Julie Schwartz Weber, J.D., Sloan Work and Family
Research Network at Boston College, who discussed
state-level legislative trends concerning
flexibility in the work place.
